FOCUS (Family Oriented Community United Strong, Inc.) emerged in 2003 to address challenges in the Tallevast Community after discovering contamination from the former Loral Corporation's American Beryllium Company site. Initially focused on revitalization, FOCUS shifted its mission to advocate for a comprehensive cleanup plan over eight years, challenging inadequacies in reports. Despite objections, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection approved a cleanup plan in 2011, projecting a 50-100 year timeline for completion. FOCUS continues to support residents and liaise with officials. Recognizing the community's weariness, FOCUS explores long-term solutions, emphasizing justice, environmental integrity, and the well-being of the Tallevast Community.
